Viswanathan Anand defended his World Chess Championship tittle successfully when he defeated Veselin Topalov in the deciding 12th game today.

Topalov was not able to justify his advantage with the whites whereas Anand playing with black pieces, held great control over the proceedings. Surprisingly after all the hard work put in by Topalov in the last few games, Vishwanathan Anand defeated him in the deciding battle in only 56 moves at Sofia ( Bulgaria ) .

The Defending World Chess Champion Vishy was tied at 5.5 -5.5 with Topalov after 11 games.

Anand had won the second and the fourth game where as Topalov won first and the eighth.

This is Anand’s fourth World Chess title. And a second consecutive defense of the title after he won it in 2007. He had previously won the title in 2000, 2007 and 2008.

Anand and his team had overtaken 40 hour drive to Sofia since all flights were cancelled due to the Icelandic Volcanic eruption. He wont mind that now i guess.

We qualify for the T20 Semis or not ! India will wake up to a good news tomorrow with Vishy on the front page !
