FIDE announced the participants of the World Chess Championship Candidates to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from 11th March to 1st April 2014. Click here for the official release. The Winner will get to play against the reigning World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen for the World Chess Championship title.

FIDE Grand Prix 2013 – Results
There were a lot of rumors in the press hinting that Anand may skip the candidates tournament going by his recent form and temperment, but FIDE surprised the chess world by listing Anand as one of the participants! Fabiano Caruana is listed as the first-reserve for finishing 2nd runner-up in the FIDE Grand Prix 2013, so in case if any of the participants for whatever reasons skip the event, then the young Italian-American will get a shot at the candidates.

Time Control:
120 minutes for the first 40 moves, 60 minutes for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game plus an additional 30 seconds per move starting from move 61.
Tie-Breaks:
If the top two or more players score the same points, the tie will be decided by the following criteria, in order of priority:
a) The results of the games between the players involved in the tie.
If they are still tied:b) The total number of wins in the tournament of every player involved in the tie.
If they are still tied:c) Sonneborn – Berger System.
