The ACC college baseball tournament will begin next week in Charlotte, North Carolina. With only 12 teams making the tournament, the winner gets an automatic bid for the college baseball tournament to compete for the national championship.
With the last week of regular season games in progress, let's look at each team and discuss their chances of making the ACC Tournament.
ACC baseball tournament seeding scenarios 2024
North Carolina Tar Heels
The North Carolina Tar Heels (40-12, 21-8 ACC) lead the conference with two games remaining. They have one game remaining against the Duke Blue Devils and have clinched the top seed in the conference tournament.
Clemson Tigers
The Clemson Tigers (39-13, 19-10 ACC) have one game remaining in the regular season against the Boston College Eagles. However, this game will not impact their standing as they have clinched the second spot in the ACC Tournament.
Florida State Seminoles
The Florida State Seminoles (39-13, 17-11 ACC) have been doing incredibly well and only have to complete their suspended game against Georgia Tech. The tiebreakers are interesting as they could finish anywhere from third to fifth depending on the results from NC State and Virginia.
NC State Wolfpack
The NC State Wolfpack (31-19, 17-11 ACC) have one game remaining against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. They are tied with the Seminoles, so it is unclear which team would hold the tiebreaker if they end with the same record. However, the Wolfpack do hold the tiebreaker against the Cavaliers, meaning a win locks them into a top-four spot in the conference tournament.
Virginia Cavaliers
The Virginia Cavaliers (39-14, 17-12 ACC) are preparing to finish the regular season tonight against Virginia Tech, and the program can move around the bracket right now. They lost the tiebreaker to Duke and NC State so a tie in conference record will drop the Cavs while they did not play against Florida State this year.
Duke Blue Devils
The Duke Blue Devils (35-17, 16-13 ACC) are in a good spot as they hold the tiebreaker over the Virginia Cavaliers, so they can climb one spot with a win. They are going up against the North Carolina Tar Heels to wrap up the regular season and they cannot drop lower than the sixth seed.
Louisville Cardinals
The Louisville Cardinals (32-22, 16-14 ACC) have completed their regular season and do not hold the tiebreaker over Wake Forest so they can drop a spot in the standings with a Demon Deacons victory today. They did not face the Duke Blue Devils this season.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (36-18, 15-14 ACC) are in the driver's seat on the final day of the regular season. They hold the tiebreaker over both Louisville and Virginia Tech, so a win would improve their seeding.
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Virginia Tech Hokies are locked into the ACC Tournament with a 32-19 (14-15 ACC) record and have their regular season finale against the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday. With a loss, they would drop to the 10th seed in the tournament but a win would keep them in ninth as they lost the tiebreaker to Wake Forest.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets concluded their regular season on Friday with a 30-21 (14-15 ACC) record. They can climb higher than the 10th spot in the conference tournament depending on other results, but this is the lowest they can be seeded.
Miami Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes conclude the regular season on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Panthers and are locked into the 11th seed in the ACC Tournament with a 19-15 (11-18 ACC) record.
Pittsburgh Panthers
The Pittsburgh Panthers (25-26, 9-20 ACC) are in control of their destiny as their final game of the regular season on Saturday against Miami plays a major factor. With a win, they clinch the 12th and final seed in the ACC Tournament while a loss eliminates them from postseason contention.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (27-25, 9-21 ACC) concluded their regular season on Friday and have to depend on Pittsburgh.
With the Fighting Irish winning the season series against the Panthers, they would get the 12th seed with a Pittsburgh loss to the Miami Hurricanes due to tiebreakers.
Boston College Eagles
The Boston College Eagles are in last place in the ACC with a 25-26 (9-20 ACC) record. They are eliminated from the ACC Tournament with one game remaining.
The ACC Tournament begins on May 21.
