Ole Miss infielder Andrew Fischer has entered the transfer portal once again. Fischer played his freshman season at Duke before transferring to Ole Miss a year ago. After a subpar season from the Rebels, Fischer, who was outstanding, is again on the move.
In 2023, Fischer hit .287 with 11 homers and 33 RBIs at Duke as he made the All-ACC Freshman team. Last season, Fischer continued developing his power stroke with the Rebels. Hit hit .285 with 20 homers.
A left-handed hitting third baseman, Fischer figures to be in high demand in the portal. Here are five possible landing spots.
Top 5 landing spots for Ole Miss IF Andrew Fischer
#1. Florida Gators
The Gators are apparently intrigued by Fisher. Some reports have linked the Ole Miss infielder to Florida with a reported upcoming visit.
Florida third baseman Dale Thomas had a rough season in 2024, hitting .225 with just three homers. Adding Fischer would give UF an infusion of power in a lineup that, despite heavy losses, promises to be full of punch in 2024.
#2. Tennessee Volunteers
Third baseman Billy Amick was a big part of Tennessee's success, which culminated in the College World Series title. Amick hit .306 with 23 homers but will likely be gone in the MLB draft. Even if not, UT would likely find a spot for Fischer.
Many have suggested that Fischer might be a next-level first baseman so that transition gives him another possible avenue to UT.
#3. LSU Tigers
But speaking of power-hitting third basemen/first basemen, LSU has been the home of Tommy "Tanks" White over the past two seasons, one of the best power bats in college baseball. White is now off to the big leagues, and LSU, trying to hang on to a top-ranked recruiting class over MLB draft offers, might well dip into the transfer portal for an established hitter like Fischer.
#4. Texas A&M Aggies
There's some major mojo around the Aggies and the new coach, Michael Earley. Earley, a former hitting coach, has done a good job pulling several Aggies back into the fold. But the upcoming MLB draft offers mean Texas A&M can't have too many big bats.
There could be some positional logjams, but Texas A&M might just take the big bats and let everything else sort itself out. Andrew Fischer could fit well as an Aggie.
#5. Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Wake Forest had a disappointing postseason, but the Deacons could reach out to a transfer familiar with the North Carolina area in Fischer. After all, Duke and Wake Forest are barely a long stone's throw apart, and Fischer played for a season in the ACC.
Nick Kurtz and Seaver King are probably moving on, and the Deacons could use a power bat to help the lineup. Tennessee transfer Chase Burns had a great season at Wake and a second big-time SEC transfer could work out well for Wake Forest and Andrew Fischer.
