The reigning NCAA Division I Champions, LSU Baseball, endured a mediocre regular season this year. Although their current regular season record stands at 36-20, their 13-17 record in the Southeastern Conference West sees them placed 4th in the conference, which is not up to their usual standards.
This is in stark contrast to their 2023 season, where they boasted a strong 54-17 season record in the regular season and a 19-10 conference record en route to winning their 7th NCAA Division I title.
Despite their regular season struggles, their strong roster suggests they could make a deep postseason run this year. With the likes of junior third baseman Tommy White and sophomore first baseman Jared Jones, the Tigers' batting line-up still looks like a solid unit.
In fact, despite his batting average of .341 being less than last year, White scored 54 runs, which is just 10 short of his 2023 mark. Alongside Ashton Larson, Steven Milam and Jones, who all have a batting average above .300, their batting line-up looks potent to carry them to the Super Regionals.
The Tigers pitching staff, led by 2024 Dick Howser Trophy semi-finalist Luke Holman, have the ability to give the support needed for their batters. However, the impact of their 2023 ace pitcher Paul Skenes' move to MLB's Pittsburgh Pirates is evident, with Holman's 2.73 ERA far off Skenes' 1.69 ERA from last season.
When will LSU Baseball learn their fate in the 2024 Regionals?
The selection show will take place on May 27, with the Regionals scheduled to take place between May 31 and June 3. Last season, the Tigers beat Tulane, Sam Houston and Oregon St. in the Baton Rouge Regional to make the Super Regionals.
The Tigers' 13-17 record this year suggests they could endure a tougher journey to the Super Regionals.
