The NCAA Division I baseball tournament is held during the spring season every year and teams vie for the chance to win the Men's College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The tournament starts with 64 teams, and after two rounds of play, 8 teams qualify and head to Omaha.

Qualification format for the Men's College World Series

Regionals: There are 64 teams in the tournament and among these, 30 received automatic bids for winning their local conferences or for achieving first place in the local qualifiers.

The other 34 teams are selected by the NCAA Selection Committee. The first 64 teams are split into 16 brackets, each featuring four teams in a double-elimination format, meaning they have to lose two games to be knocked out. At this stage, teams are seeded from No. 1 to No. 4 in their brackets.

Super Regionals: The 16 winners of the regionals form eight pairings and play in a best-of-three series.

Men's College World Series: The eight winners of the super regionals head to Omaha and are divided into two double-elimination brackets, each consisting of four teams.

Men's College World Series Finals: The winners of the two College World Series brackets meet in the finals and play a best-of-three series, with the final game determining the NCAA champion.

What are the criteria for the athletes to qualify for the NCAA?

At the beginning of the student´s junior year athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to be eligible to play NCAA Divisions I or II. This includes completing a certain number of high school core courses (certain academic criteria specified by the association), achieving a minimum grade point average, a minimum score on the SAT or ACT, and graduating from high school.

Where are the final rounds of the Men's College World Series played?

The final rounds of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship will take place at the Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. The home field of the Creighton University Bluejays is the host venue with the seating capacity of 24,000 being expanded to 35,000 spectators.
