Tre' Morgan is an LSU Tigers product and currently a first baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays. He's one of the most dynamic rookie hitters in the MLB now.
According to Spotrac, Tre' Morgan's signing bonus was $781,300 heading into his rookie season. His rookie contract is one year, $781,300, with all $781,300 of the deal guaranteed on signing.
How has Tre' Morgan performed in the pros?
Tre' Morgan has joined the Tampa Bay Rays and promptly became one of the more dynamic hitters on the program. The LSU product has played 71 minor league games, amassing 97 hits, five home runs, 43 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
The league has noticed Morgan's performances, with the skillful batter earning an invite to the 2024 MLB All-Star Week. Morgan is representing the American League at the first annual Futures Skills Showcase.
According to The Advocate, the Futures Skills Showcase is a new event that tests eight hitters in a competition with three hitting challenges: Call Your Shot, Hit it Here and Swing for the Fences.
The challenges are tailor-made to test each participant's bunting skills, power and ability to hit the baseball in certain field areas while at the plate.
Morgan was selected for the event after some inspired performances at the plate. The former LSU standout has four home runs and a .945 OPS in 57 fixtures across the Single-A and High-A levels. He also amassed a 1.035 OPS with High-A Bowling Green after he had earned a May promotion.
The All-Star Futures Skill Showcase will occur at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Morgan hopes that a solid performance during the All-Star game and in the minor leagues can earn him a promotion to play for the Tampa Bay Rays main team.
Morgan is on a one-year contract, so the sooner he plays in Major League Baseball for the Rays, the better his chances of earning a renewal for subsequent seasons.
