The LSU Tigers didn't have much luck on the first day of the 2024 MLB Draft. No player from the school were selected in the first round of the draft, with their highest pick being third baseman Tommy White who was picked by the Oakland A's in the second round with the 40th pick.
White was the best hope for the Tigers to have a first-round pick, with him being considered a top-20 prospect by most experts. That would've put him in the perfect spot to be selected by the Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins, or Baltimore Orioles.
LSU Tigers drafted on Day 1 of the 2024 MLB Draft
#3 Gage Jump- P, Oakland A's
The Oakland A's seem to think highly of the baseball program at Baton Rogue, as they selected two players on day one of the MLB draft. Jump was the second-to-last player selected on Sunday, as he went to Oakland with the No. 73 overall pick in the Competitive Balance Round B. The lefty had a 3.53 ERA in two seasons with the Tigers and was part of the 2024 SEC All-Tournament Team.
#2 Luke Holman- P, Cincinnati Reds
Another pitcher for the Tigers. Holman went to the Cincinnati Reds, who picked him with the 71st overall pick of the draft in the Competitive Balance Round B. He was a 2024 Second Team All-America selection by ABCA, D1 Baseball, NCBWA, and a Third Team All-America selection by Baseball America.
He was also part of the 2024 Second Team All-SEC. 2023-24 was his only season at LSU and his ERA was 2.75.
#1 Tommy White- 3B, Oakland A's
The Oakland A's might have struck gold in the second round of the draft when they selected Tommy White with the 40th overall pick. Many expected him to be selected by the Baltimore Orioles or the Minnesota Twins. He was Second Team All-SEC in 2024 and a Second Team All-America selection by ABCA and NCBWA. Baseball America had him as a Third Team All-America selection.
