The NCAA baseball tournament began on Monday afternoon with the Selection Show unveiling the 64 teams competing to be crowned the 2024 College World Series champions. However, some teams were on the bubble and had their season end disappointingly after not hearing their names called for a spot.
Which teams should feel the most snubbed that they were not selected as one of the 64 teams?
NCAA baseball tournament snubs 2024
TCU Horned Frogs
Despite not playing well in the Big 12 this season, the TCU Horned Frogs were on the bubble for one of the 64 spots in the NCAA tournament. However, they ranked 40th in RPI (a statistic that measures the toughness of a schedule).
After being ranked as high as fifth in the D1Baseball rankings, there was a lot of pressure and they had a lot of talent. Their 33-21 overall record was not seen as good enough to make the tournament. However, the toughness of what they had to deal with in the Big 12 places them among the teams snubbed.
California Golden Bears
The Pac-12 was not as deep as it was in the past, but the California Golden Bears were one of the biggest snubs in the country. They were one of the first four teams out of the NCAA tournament despite winning 20 of their final 25 games in the season.
This included sweeping the Oregon State Beavers, one of the teams hosting a regional this weekend. After making the Pac-12 tournament semifinals, it seemed the Golden Bears fell just short of making the 2024 NCAA tournament
Charleston Cougars
The Charleston Cougars had a hot stretch like the California Golden Bears to end the season. They went 28-5 in their final 33 games of the college baseball season. With a 41-14 record, including a 21-5 record in the CAA, they seemed poised to make the NCAA tournament. However, things did not turn out in their favor during the Selection Show on Monday afternoon.
