The NCAA has unveiled the 64-team field that will compete in the regional tournament from May 31 to June 3. These teams made their mark in the 2024 season and have proven they are the best programs in the nation.
The college baseball Field of 64 is divided into 16 four-team groups with the 16 seeded teams announced on the Selection Show on Monday securing hosting duties. Although it will work as an advantage for the hosts as they will have the home-field edge over other teams, some programs have a proud tradition and are counted on to make it to the Super Regionals despite the tall odds stacked against them.
Here are five teams who could likely make the NCAA Division I Baseball Super Regionals.
5 teams that could make NCAA D1 Baseball Super Regionals
#1. Tennessee Volunteers (50-11)
The Tony Vitelo-coached squad is on a mission this season after making the College World Series the previous year. Led by Billy Amick and Christian Moore, Tennessee overwhelmed their foes to win 50 games and were crowned SEC East Division, regular season and tournament champions.
The season-long rampage will likely continue in the Regionals as the Volunteers will host a double-elimination tournament in Knoxville. The team should easily dispatch lower-ranked Southern Mississippi, Indiana and Northern Kentucky and claim one of the 16 tickets in the Super Regionals.
#2. Arkansas Razorbacks (43-14)
Arkansas has been one of the top teams in the nation, with ace pitcher Hagen Smith leading the charge. Smith and the Razorbacks will host the Fayetteville Regional where they are bracketed with Louisiana Tech, Kansas State and Southeast Missouri State.
Being part of a tough conference in the SEC, Arkansas is battle-tested to pick up a Super Regional slot. The Razorbacks have an easier field compared with other seeded teams. They will eventually sweep the regionals and become one of the 16 teams to compete in the College World Series.
#3. Arizona Wildcats (36-21)
Arizona is hosting a regional in Tucson due to their excellent performance in the Pac-12. The Wildcats will have a stiff challenge moving forward with the presence of Dallas Baptist, who has won 44 games this season.
Arizona has enough offense to rule the Tucson regional tournament, but the team must use its superb defense and walk-off capabilities to hold off Dallas Baptist to make it through the Super Regionals.
#4. LSU Tigers (40-21)
The defending champion LSU is bracketed in the Chapel Hill Regional as the No. 2 seed. The Tigers will be in for a tough ride in this regional tournament, with hosts North Carolina seeking to dethrone the reigning kings of college baseball.
Expect coach Jay Johnson to pick up some magic on his sleeve in the regional like in the SEC Tournament. LSU's championship experience should be enough to outplay the Tar Heels and qualify for the Super Regional.
#5. Texas A&M Aggies (44-13)
As hosts of the Bryan-College Station Regional, the Texas A&M Aggies are expected to dominate and rule the double-elimination tournament, using their high-powered offense.
With college baseball's three-headed monster – Jace LaViolette, Braden Montgomery and Gavin Grahovac – leading the charge, Texas A&M will likely run over Louisiana, Texas and Grambling in the regional and make the Super Regional with relative ease.
