The ACC regular season concluded over the weekend, with the North Carolina Tar Heels claiming the top seed in the standings. The conference announced the award winners for the 2024 season on Monday ahead of the beginning of the ACC Tournament.
The awards were voted on by the 14 Atlantic Coast Conference head coaches. Take a look at the winners below.
ACC Baseball Awards 2024
Player of the Year: James Tibbs III
James Tibbs III hit .385 with 24 home runs and 78 RBIs. The Florida State Seminoles outfielder recorded 77 hits and 61 runs scored in 53 games played, finishing with a 1.340 OPS.
Pitcher of the Year: Chase Burns
Chase Burns posted a 10-1 record with a 2.63 ERA and 169 strikeouts in 14 starts. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons pitcher allowed just 51 base hits the entire season as opponents hit just .163 against him.
Freshman of the Year: Drew Burress
Drew Burress made an immediate impact as he hit .379 with 22 home runs and 62 RBIs. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets outfielder recorded 75 hits and 68 runs scored in 52 games played and posted a 1.311 OPS.
Defensive Player of the Year: Vance Honeycutt
Vance Honeycutt had a strong offensive season, however, he made just as much of an impact on the defensive end. The North Carolina Tar Heels posted a .987 fielding percentage with four outfield assists and 148 putouts, many of which were on spectacular plays.
Coach of the Year: Scott Forbes
Scott Forbes led the North Carolina Tar Heels to a 41-12 overall record that included an ACC-best 22-8 mark. They will be the top seed in the ACC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
