The Big 12 regular season came to an end over the weekend, with the Oklahoma Sooners finishing as the top seed in the standings. On Monday, the conference announced the award winners for the 2024 baseball season.
The awards were voted on by the 13 Big 12 head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players. Take a look at the winners below.
Big 12 Baseball Awards 2024
Player of the Year: Max Belyeu
Max Belyeu hit .341 with 17 home runs and 49 RBIs. The Texas Longhorns outfielder recorded 63 hits and 48 runs scored in 54 games played, finishing with a 1.147 OPS.
Pitcher of the Year: Payton Tolle
Payton Tolle posted a 7-3 record with a 2.96 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 13 starts. The TCU Horned Frogs pitcher allowed just 51 base hits the entire season as opponents hit just .191 against him.
Freshman of the Year: Dominic Voegele
Dominic Voegele made an immediate impact as a freshman as he posted a 7-2 record with a 3.32 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 14 starts. The Kansas Jayhawks pitcher held opposing batters to a .228 batting average, allowing just 65 base hits.
Newcomer of the Year: Payton Tolle
Payton Tolle's strong season also earned him Newcomer of the Year honors. The TCU Horned Frogs starting pitcher joined the program via the transfer portal after spending the first two years of his NCAA career with the Wichita State Shockers.
Coach of the Year: Skip Johnson
Skip Johnson led the Oklahoma Sooners to a 34-18 overall record that included a Big 12-best 23-7 mark. They will have the top seed in the Big 12 Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, in what will be their final season in the conference.
