Creighton Bluejays baseball coaching candidates: 5 replacements when Ed Servais retires

Ed Servais has been with the Creighton Bluejays for the past 27 seasons, initially being hired as an assistant coach and infield coach in 1998. He was promoted to head coach in 2004 and has spent the past 21 seasons leading the program.

John Fanta of Fox Sports recently shared that the long-time coach is planning to retire after the 2025 season, tweeting:

"Some college baseball news: Creighton head coach Ed Servais will manage his final season for the Bluejays in 2025. He is the program's all-time wins leader with 678. A search is underway to name an associate head coach/coach-in-waiting who will be part of the 2025 staff."

"Since making an NCAA Tournament Regional Final in 2019, Creighton has only been to the Big East Tournament twice - have not won either. They've missed it the last two years, and despite a 28-4 non-conference record this year, the Jays went 7-13 in league play. Bizarre season."

5 Creighton Bluejays replacements when Ed Servais retires

#1: Connor Gandossy

Connor Gandossy seems like a strong option to replace Ed Servais when he retires. He has spent the past seven seasons as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator of the program, which likely gives him an inside track to the job.

Gandossy is well-respected within the program and would likely be able to prevent a mass exodus.

#2: Mitch Mormann

Mitch Mormann has spent the past four seasons as the pitching coach of the Creighton Bluejays. He has had success with the pitching staff and, like Connor Gandossy, is well-respected within the program.

While he is relatively new to Creighton, Mormann will likely be considered for the position.

#3: Cam Johnson

Cam Johnson represents the final internal option for the Creighton Bluejays. While he is relatively new to the program, he has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach and the director of baseball operations.

If the Bluejays limit their serach to internal options, Johnson figures to have a shot at receiving the job.

#4: Dave McKay

If the Creighton Bluejays are looking for an experienced coach, Dave McKay could be an option.

While he is a bit of a long shot due to his advanced age, 74, the Arizona Diamondbacks first base coach has spent the past 41 seasons coaching in the MLB. He has ties to the program after playing his college baseball at Creighton.

#5: Brian O'Connor

Brian O'Connor is another long shot option who played college baseball for the Creighton Bluejays.

The Virginia Cavaliers head coach began his coaching career with his alma mater, serving as the pitching coach for three seasons. He has led the Cavaliers the past 21 seasons, winning the College World Series in 2015.
