Creighton Baseball Head Coach Ed Servais announced he would retire after the 2025 college baseball season. The 66-year-old will leave the Bluejays as one of their most celebrated head coaches, leaving his successor with big shoes to fill after the end of next season.

The announcement comes two days after losing 2-1 to Seton Hall in their final regular season game in 2024. In a press release put out by Creighton Baseball, Servais expressed gratitude to the team's administration for their support.

"Creighton has been my home for such a long time, I am so pleased to have had the ability to come to this decision hand-in-hand with our administration, specifically McCormick Endowed Athletic Director Marcus Blossom."

Servais also admits that setting the next head coach up for success is crucial before announcing his retirement.

"Securing the future of a program I've spent over 27 years with was my priority.
"My career is coming to a close and this allows for our student-athletes to develop a relationship with the next head coach, while maintaining the culture and commitment we've worked so hard to create."

The uncle of Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais, Ed Servais' speciality lies in defense. He made the Bluejays one of the best fielding units in the country, with their .975 fielding percentage since he took over being a country-leading total. In addition, their 879 fielding errors during his tenure are the least across the country.

In his 21-season tenure, the Bluejays won the Big East regular season title thrice and the 2019 Big East tournament. Servais has 643 wins with the Bluejays, the most of any coach in the program and 825 wins overall. His accolades include winning the Big East Coach of the Year twice, in 2014 and 2019.

Can Ed Servais end his career by winning the College World Series?

One feat that has eluded his illustrious career is winning the College World Series. In fact, Creighton Baseball made just one appearance in the tournament in 1991.

Their 7-13 conference record this season is likely to see them miss out on the postseason this year. However, by adding more firepower to their roster alongside the likes of junior infielder Nolan Sailors and senior hitter Nolan Clifford, they could make a strong case for themselves in Servais' final season in charge of the Bluejays.
