Florida Gators star Jac Caglianone earned the All-SEC honor for the second time on Monday, being named to the first team as a first baseman by the league's coaches.
His girlfriend, Elli McKissock, a volleyball player for the Gators, was elated and uploaded an Instagram story to celebrate his achievement.
The caption of the story read:
"No surprises here."
Along with earning All-SEC honors, Caglianone was named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award. His achievement was not a surprise to many because the junior two-way player gave yet another historic performance in the regular season.
Jac Caglianone achieved several historic feats, from matching the NCAA record for consecutive games with a home run, his 30-game hit streak, and his 69 career home runs, to becoming the first player in Southeastern Conference history to record back-to-back 30 home run seasons.
Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan had high praise for Jac:
"It's easy to see his physical stature and kind of be taken aback a little bit by it," said Sullivan, according to 247Sports.com. "The ability to pitch and hit is obviously unique in itself. But, you know, the thing that I see behind the scenes that most people don't have the opportunity to see is the maturity."
"It is extremely difficult to be a player like Jac and have the whole world looking at you."
Jac Caglianone's success has been closely witnessed by his parents
Not only do Caglianone's girlfriend and his head coach recognize his impressive playing style and maturity as an athlete, but his parents, Jeff and Johanne Caglianone, have shared a front-row seat to witness their son's success. The proud parents rarely miss any game of Jac.
While talking to the Orlando Sentinel, Jeff discusses his son's success:
“It’s really kind of surreal for us,” Jeff told the Orlando Sentinel. “He’s had success at a lot of levels, but you never envision what he’s been able to do.”
Jac Caglianone will play in the SEC Tournament and will face No. 8 Vanderbilt. Despite Jac's best efforts to help his team, Florida has struggled, which led his father to note that not winning games can be stressful for his son.
“It’s frustrating,” his father said. “He can be torn at times — ‘I’m having success.’ But it’s not as important when we’re not winning. That sounds cliché, I get it. But he really wants the team to succeed.”
Jac Caglianone will aim to win some games at the SECs and slip into the NCAAs. But whatever the future holds, he is one of the top-five picks in the 2024 MLB draft.
