The ongoing SEC Tournament, broadcasted on the SEC Network, has produced some incredible baseball. While the top-seeded Tennessee Volunteers have steamrolled their competition, the LSU Tigers have peaked at the right time to reach the final.
However, fans have taken an issue with the network for a part of their broadcasting coverage, which is UmpCast. UmpCast is a special form of broadcast that the SEC Network provides, where fans can watch the game through a camera fitted on the umpire behind home plate.
The UmpCast broadcast allows fans to get very close to the action, with the camera angle making them feel like they are the ones batting in the game.
However, many fans have spoken out against the SEC Network's broadcast feature, with some admitting that they switched to ESPN's coverage of the SEC Tournament Championship game between the Volunteers and the Tigers.
A irate fan said, "Terrible way to watch a game, please Stop!!"
"We turned your coverage off because of this. Watching on ESPN," said another.
"Please stop. It’s awful watching a game this way," added another disappointed fan.
Some college baseball fans even complained that UmpCast's view was giving them headaches and making them feel like they were experiencing motion sickness.
"Thanks for the motion sickness. It’s played out now. Not a fan for every at bat," said a fan.
"I'm getting dizzy... please stop w this camera," said another.
Another fan added, "Stop the umpcast! I’m going to throw up!"
SEC Network UmpCast broadcast of SEC Tournament Final draws fans' ire
Fans' ire towards UmpCast has made it clear that the SEC Network needs to work on altering certain aspects of the technology.
As for today's flagship game on the SEC Network, the Tennessee Volunteers staved off a late comeback from the LSU Tigers in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure their second SEC Tournament win in three years with a 4-3 win.
The Volunteers, who also won the SEC regular season title, are guaranteed to take part in, and potentially host, the NCAA Regionals this season once again.
As for the Tigers, their performance in the SEC Tournament is likely to strengthen their at-large bid to make the Regionals and defend their NCAA Division I crown.
