Vance Honeycutt is an American center fielder who is being considered North Carolina’s top prospect for the 2024 MLB Draft. Coming out of Salisbury High School as a two-sport athlete, Honeycutt excelled in both football and baseball but eventually made a decision to pursue baseball at college. He was the recipient of the 2021 Rowan County High School Baseball Player of the Year award and was also the starting quarterback for the Salisbury football team. Honeycutt also led his school to the 2021 NCHSAA baseball 2A state championship and earned All-County honours as a freshman, sophomore and senior.
Following his high school career, Honeycutt soon received a scholarship offer from North Carolina Tar Heels where he started all 64 games in his freshman year in 2022. In his rookie campaign, Honeycutt slashed a line of .296/.409/.672 with 25 home runs, 57 RBIs and 29 stolen bases. He set the record in the program’s history with 20 or more home runs in a single season by a freshman. Honeycutt won the ACC championship as a rookie. In 2023 as a sophomore, Honeycutt’s numbers dropped slightly as he posted .257/.492/.418 with 12 home runs, 51 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. He still managed to bag the ACC Defensive Player of the Year honour for the 2023 season. Finally, Honeycutt has entered his junior and final year with Tar Heels where he hit 28 home runs breaking his own Tar Heels record. The Salisbury outfielder has finished his Tar Heels career with 65 runs and was honoured with the ACC Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Honeycutt is touted to be North Carolina’s best prospect and he likely become a Top 10 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
