Vance Honeycutt is an American outfielder who appears to be well on his way to becoming a first-round pick of the 2024 MLB Draft. He started playing baseball at Salisbury High School where he was a two-sport athlete. He was the 2021 Rowan County High School Baseball Player of the Year and received all-country honours in three of his four years of prep career. Honeycutt was also the starting quarterback for the Salisbury football team and led his school to the 2021 NCHSAA baseball 2A state championship.
Honeycutt embarked on his collegiate baseball journey with the North Carolina Tar Heels and started all 64 games in his freshman year in 2022. He concluded his rookie campaign with a line of .296/.409/.672 with 25 home runs, 57 RBIs and 29 stolen bases. It was the first time in the program’s history that a player hit 20 or more runs in a single season as a freshman. The following year as a sophomore, Honeycutt posted .257/.492/.418 with 12 home runs, 51 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. Despite missing the final 10 games with a lower back injury, Honeycutt secured the ACC Defensive Player of the Year honour for the second consecutive year. This has certainly helped Honeycutt grow his MLB draft stock being North Carolina’s top draft prospect of the year. Honeycutt has now entered his junior year with Tar Heels and will look to improve on his numbers from last season.
