The first round of the 2024 MLB draft is officially underway and the Cincinnati Reds selected right-handed pitcher Chase Burns from the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He did well in 13 starts as he was 8-1 with a 2.72 ERA and a .169 batting average against 82.2 innings of work.

Fans reacted to the news of Chase Burns joining the Reds organization.

"Yall tied in w Wake Forest or somn lmao" One person posted
"Rip to this guys career. Coming to a team that has never developed an ace or keep a pitcher healthy for more than 2 weeks." Another commenter posted

Other people believed the Cincinnati Reds chose Chase Burns over a possible offensive threat, one of the biggest weaknesses of the organization.

"Condon was right there and you elect for another arm. What are you doing? Granted I think Burns will be really good as a Tennessee fan. But cmon Condon was right there man." One Twitter user responded
"Don't hate this, don't love this. wish we would've gotten a serious bat than can play corner OF, but Burns is a stud so excited to see the progression of his" Another commenter replied

It will be interesting to see what happens next as Burns could decide to return to college baseball for his senior season or begin his path to the pros.

Will Chase Burns return to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons next season?

The MLB draft is a little different than what other professional drafts have. The MLB draft gives players the option to not sign with the team and instead return to college baseball. That is going to be one of the options that Chase Burns has.

While the decision rests with the ACC Pitcher of the Year, he will be a valuable addition to any team.

"He's the best college pitcher I've seen," Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter said.

By being the second-overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft, the Reds have a $9,785,000 allotment for this pick, meaning that is the most the team can give Burns.
