With the cap on the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, attention can start to shift to the 2025 NBA Draft, and with good reason. In comparison with an infamously weak 2024 Draft class, next year's class features a handful of potential immediate-impact players.
Sure, it's early, but not too early to start thinking about the likely top picks in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Top 10 players to watch for in 2025 NBA Draft
#10 AJ Storr, Kansas G/F
Storr is a talented veteran who jumped from Wisconsin to Kansas this off-season. He was at St. John's the previous year.
Storr has scored 897 points in two college seasons. He's a multi-talented player-- solid as a driver or shooter. The six-foot-six Storr is a talented big guard who is big enough to guard an NBA small forward.
#9 Liam McNeeley, UConn F
McNeeley was one of the late climbers in the recruiting cycle. But landing at UConn, where Dan Hurley is turning top recruits into sure-thing lottery picks, should get McNeeley a long second look.
The six-foot-eight McNeeley is an oustanding wing forward who could be an NBA pick soon.
#8 Boogie Fland, Arkansas G
John Calipari and lottery picks? It's about as close to a sure thing as possible. Fland is a talented incoming guard, and Calipari will let him cook in Fayetteville.
The Arkansas guard could even climb significantly above this spot. After all, who had Reed Sheppard as the third overall pick this time a year ago? Fland is one to watch for the 2025 NBA Draft from this talented freshman class.
#7 Khaman Maluach, Duke C
The seven-foot-two Maluach is still very raw but has impressive defensive skills and seems to have a solid offensive upside.
Perhaps a more tentative Dikembe Mutombo could be a possible point of comparison for a young Maluach. Jon Scheyer could help with Maluach's development, and at his height, he could be drafted even higher in the 2025 NBA Draft.
#6 Dylan Harper, Rutgers G
Two top talents in the nation at Rutgers? Better believe it. The book on Harper, a talented combo guard is that while teammate Ace Bailey has a higher ceiling,
Harper is closer to being a finished product at this stage of his career. It will be fascinating to see how the two play together at Rutgers.
#5 VJ Edgecombe, Baylor G
A talented wing recruit, Edgecombe is long on athleticism and talent. How well he picks up the subtle nuances of the game is fair to wonder. It probably defines how high of a first-round pick the explosive Edgecombe can be.
#4 Nolan Traore, France G
Traore is just 18, but the French guard turned down Duke and Arkansas to spend a season in the French pro leagues instead.
Traore has been outstanding in international competition, and the six-foot-four athlete has both point guard stability and shooting guard athleticism.
#3 Hugo Gonazlez, Spain G/F
The six-foot-six Gonzalez is still young but has impressive open-floor ability, including scoring with either hand.
He's a solid shooter as well and as long as he can work his growing strength into his game, and his ceiling is very high. Gonzalez looks like a top pick for 2025.
#2 Ace Bailey, Rutgers F
In many years, Cooper Flagg would be the unquestioned top pick, but Bailey seeks to make that a competition. He's a six-foot-nine athlete who is unmatched in the open floor.
Bailey's ceiling is as high as anyone in the class, but he has some bad habits - forcing shots and falling in love with his jumper. Bailey could be the star of the group.
#1 Cooper Flagg, Duke F
Flagg is all but guaranteed his NBA status. A do-everything six-foot-nine forward who gets plaudits as a defender as much as for his scoring output, Flagg is the real deal.
He's one of those "best since (fill in the blank)" type of recruits. He's not quite a LeBron James or an Anthony Davis, but he's not far behind as well.
