The LSU Tigers are looking to bounce back from their unceremonious exit in last season's Elite Eight. They'll play the 2024-25 NCAA women's basketball season with a strong and experienced lineup that remains formidable despite the exit of top collegiate star Angel Reese.
The Kim Mulkey-coached squad will have an intact core and added standout players from the transfer portal who can contribute to the Lady Tigers' cause. Here are the three LSU players to watch out for in the 2024-25 season.
Three LSU women's basketball players to watch out for in 2024-25 season
#1. Aneesah Morrow
Aneesah Morrow may likely take over from Angel Reese as the team's No. 1 option, as the 6-foot-1 guard averaged a double-double in points and rebounds the previous season. The incoming senior will be the team's leader in the coming season, and she will be the main gunner for the Lady Tigers, who seek to regain lost ground in the SEC and the nation.
Morrow's efforts in the 2023-24 season gave her the AP All-American and All-SEC First Team awards and she was a finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award. Recently, she signed an NIL deal with Disrupt the Game as its representative for women's basketball.
#2. Flau'jae Johnson
Flau'jae Johnson is coming off an excellent sophomore season where she improved her production in points, assists, steals and blocks per game. This past season, the 5-foot-10 guard tallied 14.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.5 apg, 2.1 spg and 1.0 bpg, as she played dual duties as a primary defender and a lethal scorer for the Lady Tigers.
Johnson also improved her shooting numbers, with a 50.4% field goal clip this past season, including 38.0% from deep. She also made 76.9% of her free throws. With Reese gone, expect Johnson and Morrow to pick up the leadership slack in the hopes of carrying the team to another run to the national final.
As a side note, Johnson has released her new album featuring American rapper Lil Wayne.
#3. Mikaylah Williams
Mikaylah Williams completes LSU's three-headed monster in the coming season, as she has shown glimpses of it in her freshman year with the Lady Tigers. The six-footer out of Los Angeles tallied 14.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.9 apg and 1.2 spg. She played an average of 32 minutes per contest and was one of the main contributors to the Kim Mulkey-coached program.
Williams would likely carry on with her amazing first year with LSU and will form an excellent trio with Johnson and Morrow as they have been together as a team for a full season.
