Despite the nation’s expectations for them to land an NCAA Tournament appearance, the Oklahoma Sooners ended their 2023-24 season with a first-round loss in the Big 12 Tournament. With that, a prominent chunk of their core roster entered the transfer portal, leaving behind a void that was responsible for more than half of their offense.
Nevertheless, coach Porter Moser aggressively pursued experienced faces in the portal, hoping to make up for the lost arsenal. Additionally, the Sooners will also need to adapt to a conference change that now pits them in the SEC. With that, let’s look at the top faces that can emerge out of Moser’s lineup in the 2024-25 season.
Oklahoma men's basketball players to watch out for in 2024-25 season
#1. Brycen Goodine
The four-star recruit journeyman comes from Fairfield Stags after his most productive season and previous stints with Syracuse and Providence. Brycen Goodine was the Stags’ third-best scorer with averages of 13.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists and the best 3-point shooter with 5.3 attempts per game and a 46.7% efficiency.
Oklahoma Sooners can also use Brycen Goodine's scorer’s mindset for numerous plays as the 6-foot-4 guard is adept at making shots in a variety of ways.
#2. Duke Miles
The Big South Freshman of the Year was High Point’s best player last season, helping the school to 27 wins while being the program leader in scoring (17.5), assists (3.6) and steals (1.3). Duke Miles has enough in his bag to score on all three levels and makes his teammates better with his win-first approach.
While Miles struggles with high-volume 3-point shooting, he can be a problem when taking the same amount of shots from under the arc.
#3. Jeff Nwankwo
Jeff Nwankwo might be the Oklahoma Sooners’ most promising addition this year. He began his athletic career as a Division I football player and now comes to Oklahoma as the number 2 junior college prospect. He can be a great 3-and-D player for Porter Moser this year due to his tendency to aggressively crash the board and good shot fundamentals from behind the arc.
Jeff Nwankwo averaged 18.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals last season while earning NJCAA first-team All-America honors.
