Kiyan Anthony idolizes Paul George and that's why his dad, Carmelo Anthony, arranged a podcast with Kiyan and PG13. The moment was a huge glimpse of the support Carmelo has mounted for Kiyan since day one of his basketball journey.
From having him courtside or in the pressers as a kid to allowing him to lead his battles on the court, he has constantly been a pillar of strength for the 17-year-old.
With that, let's look at three instances when Melo radiated true dad goals through his on-court support for Kiyan:
Carmelo Anthony's dad-goals moments while supporting Kiyan Anthony
#3. Cheering during the early-season dominance
The Long Island Lutheran high school team displayed their depth against the Chaminade in their first home game of the season, winning the contest by a margin of 68 points (113-45). Kiyan Anthony led with 25 points, as Kayden Mingo and VJ Edgecombe added a combined 37 points.
While the 15th-year coach John Buck solidified the Division I candidacy of nearly 10 players on his roster, Carmelo Anthony was seen cheering for the then 16-year-old throughout the game while having La La Anthony by his side.
#2. Trusting Kiyan Anthony to hold off his own
During the 2024 Peach Jam’s PIT, Team Melo faced Team Durant in their second-last showdown. Kiyan Anthony had a heated faceoff against Jadyn Harris early in the game. While Carmelo Anthony ensured the confrontation did not extend, the younger Anthony made sure to make his game heard.
Even though he struggled with his shooting at first, the 17-year-old dropped 27 points, a game-high and his second-best of the tournament. Harris was limited to 16 points as Team Melo won the contest 73-66.
#1. Letting him shine in the limelight
One of Anthony’s most covered games this year came on May 19 against SFG as part of the EYBL season run. Alongside Carmelo Anthony on the sidelines, LeBron James was present too, cheering for his youngest son, Bryce James.
While Team Melo let the game go by six points, 71-65, Anthony won the most desired matchup of the game. He scored 18 points and four assists on 31.6% shooting, while Bryce James posted eight points on a 37.5% clip.
