After a Final Four run last year, the UConn Huskies women's team is preparing for another epic run next season. Their last NCAA title came in 2016, a fourth consecutive title win for the Huskies, which also marked the end of the Breanna Stewart era.

The succeeding years have been marked by close calls and injury-ridden rosters that affected the Huskies' chances in the postseason. With the healthy return of players to the roster, the 2024-25 season could be a comeback year for UConn.

Here are a few players who could play a key role and should be on your watch list.

3 UConn women's basketball players to watch out for in 2024-25 season

#1. Paige Bueckers

This season could be Paige Bueckers' last at UConn, and she is preparing to go out with a bang. While she is already considered one of the best Huskies to play at Storrs, a title win will help her join other Husky greats.

Returning from a major ACL injury last year, Paige Bueckers averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.2 steals. In the upcoming year, she will lead the team without the help of UConn's previous core players, Nika Muhl and Aaliyah Edwards. Leading a team of sophomores and freshmen along with healthy upperclassmen, Bueckers has her work cut out.

#2. Ashlynn Shade

The incoming sophomore played a huge role last season as she averaged 11.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 1.4 apg. She had 33 starts, playing an average of 31.4 minutes. As senior players were sidelined with injuries, Shade and other freshman players had to step up and help UConn in their trip to the Final Four.

She finished third in scoring after Bueckers and Edwards. In the upcoming season, she is expected to take an even bigger role. Regular upperclassmen starters, Azzi Fudd and Aubrey Griffen have made a healthy return from injuries. UConn added Kaitlyn Chen from the transfer portal. All these could push Shade to a bench role. It is yet to be seen how Geno Auriemma will play his talents next season.

#3. Sarah Strong

The No.1 prospect of the 2024 recruiting class, Sarah Strong has all eyes on her as she prepares for her college debut. After an impressive senior season, Strong added more boost to her preparation by winning the gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 FIBA U-18 Women's AmeriCup.

The power forward will play a huge role in the team and could be the possible replacement for Aaliyah Edwards:

"She’s the best player on the floor in nearly every game she plays. Her skill set so diverse that she has the ability to score at any level plus the size and physicality to snatch up almost every rebound. Yet, when asked what area of her game she’s most proud of, she doesn’t hesitate when she says her passing," CT Insider's Maggie Vanoni wrote.

One of the most-anticipated rookies in the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Sarah Strong in the NCAA title contention.
