Haley Cavinder, one half of the Cavinder twins, has decided to return to the college basketball hardwood. Following Miami's first Elite Eight appearance this past March Madness, the Cavinder twins decided to retire from the sport. Haley played for the Fresno State Bulldogs for the first three years, following which she transferred to play for the Hurricanes.
Haley recently entered the NCAA transfer portal, wishing to play in the 2024–25 season. Though she is expected to stay in Miami, she will have plenty of options to explore.
With the 2023–24 season a month away from tip-off, Haley will have a great opportunity to observe her competition and pick the best destination for next season.
5 landing spots for Haley Cavinder for the 2024–25 season
1. Miami Hurricanes
In her previous season with the Hurricanes, Haley averaged 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists on over 40% shooting from the field. Returning to Miami would be a great option for Haley, having supported the team in its first Elite Eight run.
While she has entered the transfer portal, Haley can re-think her choices and return to her old club.
2. UConn Huskies
The Huskies are one of the top teams entering the 2023–24 season. They finished with a record of 31-6 as they topped the Big East last time out. Haley could be a great fit in next year's squad. Led by Geno Auriemma, the Huskies are expected to make another strong run in the upcoming season.
3. Iowa Hawkeyes
The Hawkeyes, led by Caitlin Clark, came up short in the championship game back in April and will hope to go one better this time around. Many believe the Hawkeyes will clash with the Tigers in the championship game yet again.
There is a lot of hype around both teams, and Haley, who is famous for her off-court activities, can bring some eyeballs back to the college basketball scene in Iowa.
4. Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes finished fourth in the Big Ten with a record of 28-8. Led by Kevin McGuff, the squad is pretty strong. Overall, it's a quite balanced team, perfect for a player like Haley to slide into. She can shoot from deep and is a great secondary scorer.
Similar to Taylor Thierry, Haley can put up points on the board in support of the leading scorers on the team.
5. UCLA Bruins
The Bruins had a decent season, finishing 4th in the Pac-12 and making it to the Regional Semifinal.
Cori Close, who has been coaching the Bruins since 2011, continues to lead the team and can do a good job with Haley.
Haley will have quite a few options to choose from and it will be interesting to see where she ends up.
