Alex Sarr is among the top prospects heading into the 2024 NBA Draft, which is set to begin on Wednesday, June 26. This year will mark the first year that the draft is split into two days as the second round will take place on Thursday, June 27. However, Sarr will not have to worry about that later date as he appears to be a lock to hear his name called in the lottery portion of the draft.
In fact, the French-born center is in contention to be the first overall pick. It would mark just the second time in league history that foreign-born players are selected first overall in back-to-back years — the San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft.
In the 27 games played in Australia's National Basketball League, Sarr averaged 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 0.4 steals in 17.3 minutes per game. He shot 51.6% from the field, 28.6% from three-point range, and 71.0% from the free-throw line. Take a look at five potential landing spots for him below.
Five potential landing spots for Alex Sarr in the 2024 NBA Draft
#1: Atlanta Hawks
Alex Sarr has yet to work out for the Atlanta Hawks despite their interest in him. There is still a possibility that the team will select him first overall. Sarr would help improve a Hawks defense that struggled last season while providing the team with plenty of upside.
#2: Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards remain the most likely destination for Alex Sarr. They consistently scouted him throughout his lone season with the Perth Wildcats, and he is reportedly interested in joining the team as he believes there will be more opportunities than in Atlanta.
#3: Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are in a position to draft whomever they deem to be the best player available as they have young talent throughout their roster. If Sarr falls to the third overall pick, it would not be a surprise to see the Rockets pounce due to his long-term upside.
#4: San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly shown interest in trading up. However, it is unclear who they are targeting. San Antonio holds both the fourth and eighth overall picks in this year's draft. They could look to pair Victor Wembanyama with his countryman.
#5: Memphis Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies are another team looking to trade up from the ninth overall spot. While it remains unclear who they would target, pairing Alex Sarr with Jaren Jackson Jr. could give them one of the best interior defenses in the league.
