Ashlyn Watkins played at Cardinal Newman School in Columbia, South Carolina, where she was ranked as the No. 4 player in her position and the No. 12 overall player in the Class of 2022. Watkins took Cardinal Newman to four straight SCISA Class 3A state championships. She graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,740 points, 1,341 rebounds, and 366 shot-blocks. During her senior year, Watkins averaged 20.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game. She earned a spot in the McDonald's All-American team in 2022. Apart from basketball, Watkins participated in Cardinal Newman's volleyball squad, assisting the team in securing a state championship in 2020 and finishing second in 2021. Her remarkable high school career gave her an offer from the University of South Carolina.
