Alabama basketball fans rejoiced at the report that coach Nate Oats plans on bringing in Detroit Pistons assistant coach Brian Adams for the 2024-25 NCAA men's basketball season. Senior ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported on the development, citing sources close to the situation.
Adams will replace Austin Claunch, who left the Crimson Tide during the offseason to become the coach of UTSA.
Adams, who worked with Doc Rivers at the Philadelphia 76ers from 2020-2023 and the Pistons halfway through last season, will join Preston Murphy and Ryan Pannone on Oats' coaching staff in Tuscaloosa.
Fans, especially those who cheer for the Crimson Tide, reacted positively to the new hiring, with one social media user believing that Adams' NBA coaching experience will add a new dimension to the coaching staff.
"Exciting move for Alabama! Brian Adams brings a wealth of experience from the NBA, adding a new dimension to Coach Nate Oats' staff," the fan wrote.
"SOLID HIRE FOR ALABAMA," another user added.
Other fans felt hiring Adams alone would propel the team to its first-ever national title, one year after the Crimson Tide reached the Final Four.
"Between Oats, Adams and Pannone, Alabama has one of the strongest coaching staffs in the country," a college hoops fan analyzed the hiring.
"Alabama now has two former NBA Assistant coaches on staff in Ryan Pannone and now Brian Adams. As well as, one of the best, if not the best, recruiter in the country in Preston Murphy. An absolute juggernaut of a staff assembled by Nate Oats," a college baseketball mind added.
"Perfect now," another fan said.
"Nate Oats does it again. Another masterclass hire," a fan wrote.
"Champion," a user added.
