WNBA star A'ja Wilson turned 28 on Thursday and her college coach Dawn Staley paid tribute to her with a special post on Instagram. Staley, who coached Wilson at South Carolina for four years, shared some hilarious throwback photos of her former star player.
In one of the snaps, Wilson can be seen showing off her dance moves in front of her Las Vegas Aces teammates. The last image is perfect meme material, capturing the two-time WNBA champion making a funny face during a press conference.
"Happy happy happy Parian birthday to the A’One and Only A'ja Wilson! Have yourself an incredible memorable and blessing filled day A!! Love you!," Staley captioned.
A'ja Wilson reacted to the pictures and commented on the post.
"the last picture is crazzyyyyy but thank you coach," Wilson wrote.
This is not the first time the three-time national champion coach uploaded hilarious photos of Wilson. Back in July, Staley asked her followers on X to send her memes of Wilson. She then shared two funny pictures of the 6-foot-4 center from her college days.
"Yall I need this meme of A'ja Wilson that I saw but didn’t save. It fits right in with these. Can yall tweet me some that would fit in this post…..," Staley posted.
Fans quickly filled the comments section with memes and asked Staley if any of them was what she wanted. She even responded and had some funny exchanges with fans.
Dawn Staley picks A'ja Wilson WNBA MVP this season
Even if there are still a lot of games to play in the current WNBA season, Dawn Staley has already made her pick for the Most Valuable Player Award. In a post on X on July 16, she said she was confident that A'ja Wilson will claim her third MVP trophy this year.
"I know yall will say I’m crazy and biased or both…. maybe, but A'ja Wilson is your WNBA Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, and Most Improved…..," Staley posted.
Staley was also very impressed with Wilson's season stats.
"Dizzam I just checked A'ja Wilson statline…..oh you back to rebounding huh Ms. Wilson?!!" Staley tweeted on July 14th. "Double double and almost double that up! You really trying to send a message to that voter who gave you a 4th place MVP vote."
In 24 games played this season, Wilson is averaging 27.2 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 2.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.
