South Carolina coach Dawn Staley had fun watching the NFL Christmas Day performance of Beyonce at halftime of a game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys.
She even compared the multi-platinum singer's performance to her 2023-24 Gamecocks that went undefeated en route to the national championship by beating Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes by 12 points.
Beyonce performed a medley of her hits from her latest album, "Cowboy Carter," and the performance went perfectly on the Netflix streaming broadcast. Staley was thrilled with the American singer's halftime singing masterpiece. She even called her "undefeated" and flexed her last year's Gamecocks squad.
"Just call @Beyonce the internet because she’s undefeated….oh like us @GamecockWBB last season 🤭🤭🤭….slight flex! Go head Bey!!", Staley posted on her X account.
The American singer is no stranger to performing at NFL halftime shows. She sang at the Super Bowl in 2013 in New Orleans and three years later outside San Francisco. The Houston native's 2001 hit "Survivor," when she was with the girl group Destiny's Child, came a year before the Houston Texans first played in the NFL as an expansion team.
Unfortunately for the Texans, the Baltimore Ravens came to play and walloped them, 31-2, in a Christmas Day massacre that could be well etched in the team's history books as one of the worst games of the franchise.
South Carolina on its way to back-to-back national titles
The South Carolina Gamecocks are back on their bid to win back-to-back national championship titles. They've been playing well since they were outclassed by UCLA on Nov. 24 which broke their 43-game winning streak.
They trampled Iowa State, Purdue, Duke, TCU, South Florida and Charleston Southern by double digits and the No. 2 Gamecocks are 11-1 in the NCAA standings. South Carolina will play against Wofford on Sunday afternoon at the Colonial Life Arena.
The game is in preparation for its SEC debut against Missouri on Jan. 2. The Tigers are 10-4 and their notable wins in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season were against Wichita State in the Emerald Coast Classic and SMU in the ACC-SEC Challenge.
The defending SEC champions, Gamecocks are favored because of their balanced offense. Four players: Te-Hina Paopao, Joyce Edwards, Chloe Kitts and Milaysia Fulwiley, are averaging double figures for the team.
However, they'll be challenged by a tough Tigers team with Grace Slaughter leading their offense at 14.2 ppg. Laniah Randle backs up with 11.5 ppg.
