Dawn Michelle Staley is an American head coach of women’s basketball who has been with South Carolina since 2008. She began her coaching career as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Rage from 1997-1999. She got her first coaching role with the Temple Owls where she led the program to six NCAA Tournament appearances. Staley is considered one of the elite coaches in women’s basketball and is lauded for building South Carolina into an elite program.
Staley has also served as the head coach of the USA Women’s basketball team from 2017-2021 and won her first gold in the 2020 Summer Olympics winning all six games. She has been named Naismith Coach of the Year three times, in 2020, 2022 and 2023. The legendary coach led Temple and South Carolina to several conference and championship titles.

Dawn Staley has been with the South Carolina Gamecocks since 2008 and this will be her 16th season with them. She also had an impressive NCAA Tournament record as a head coach for the Temple Owls. Staley had the best overall record of 172-80, along with six NCAA appearances and four Atlantic 10 titles. The Gamecocks are favorites to win the NCAA title in April.
