Deja Kelly started her collegiate basketball career with the North Carolina Tar Heels as a freshman in the 2020/21 season. Because of her excellent playing skills, she was added to the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2021.
Kelly notably scored her first double double in a winning game against the Virginia Tech Hokies during her 2021/22 sophomore season. Furthermore, her basketball skills also helped her team to arrive at their first Sweet 16 after seven years.

Deja Kelly has played varsity basketball in two school teams. She first attended Lady Bird Johnson High School in San Antonio, Texas, United States. There she played her freshman and sophomore seasons with the school team, the Johnson Jaguars. She was praised for her performance in these seasons.
In her junior year, Deja Kelly changed schools and joined Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas, United States. There she played varsity basketball for Duncanville Panthers and Pantherettes.
