Jones began his collegiate career at Garden City Community College in the 2020-21 season, winning Jayhawk Conference Freshman of the Year. He scored 573 points in 30 games and shot 77 three-pointers. He contributed 19 points against Vanderbilt on January 31, 2024, and 17 points against Yale in the NCAA Tournament First Round on March 22, 2024. Jones also converted 69 of 80 attempts from the free-throw line. As an academic scholar, he was honored to the 2023-24 NABC Honors Court.
Denver Jones had a remarkable high school career in three different schools, first at Tennessee Preparatory Academy, followed by Buckhorn High School, and later graduated from the Memphis Day Academy in Tennessee. Throughout his high school, Jones scored more than 2,000 points. At Buckhorn, he guided his team to a 22-8 record as a sophomore. He was named to the all-state second team and the all-region first team at Memphis Day Academy. Jones also played AAU basketball for Team Thad and won numerous all-area recognitions while being the top scorer for his teams.
