Earlier on Tuesday, Cooper Flagg and the Duke Blue Devils nailed their fifth straight ACC victory and ninth overall. They dismantled the Pittsburgh Panthers, 76-47, to stay undefeated in conference play thus far along with an impressive 13-2 overall record.
Once again showcasing why he is a projected lottery pick in the 2025 NBA draft later this year, Flagg was impressive all throughout the triumph. The Newport, Maine native posted a game-high 19 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting from the field to go along with 10 rebounds, five assists, a steal and two blocks.
As he continues to stuff the stat sheet, Flagg is set to outlast NBA stars Kyrie Irving and Brandon Ingram in a particular stat. Should the freshman sensation improve on his current point average of 17.5 points per game for the rest of the campaign, he could potentially surpass the aforementioned players during their days in college.
Irving was tallying the same scoring average as Flagg during his one-and-done stint at Duke. Meanwhile, Ingram had only produced 17.3 ppg during the 2015-2016 season.
However, Flagg still has a way to go if he wants to overcome renowned Duke products such as Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Marvin Bagley III. Williamson and Barrett both contributed 22.6 ppg in their season together while Bagley III was an interior force to the tune of 21.0 ppg.
Along with contributing complete averages of 8.5 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.6 spg and 1.3 bpg, Flagg is still in the first couple of months of his rookie year as he could either pad on or garner less for his stats. The Blue Devils face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish next on Saturday in Durham, North Carolina.
Cooper Flagg made back-to-back highlight dunks on Tuesday
In the 17:32 mark of the second half of Duke's conference fixture against Pittsburgh, Flagg was a force to be reckoned with at the rim. He would steal the ball from Panthers guard Jaland Lowe and consequently ran the fastbreak for a thunderous one-handed posterizing slam over opposing swingman, Guillermo Diaz Graham.
This would cause an and-one call in favor of the Blue Devils as Flagg would sink in the freebie:
In their very next offensive possession, Flagg would sky high once again for an athletic two-handed jam. This time however, the 6-foot-9 spitfire scorer did it in halfcourt as he crossed up his defender at the top of the key, which happened to be Diaz Graham once again, all the way to the rim.
