After a major transfer portal exodus, the Duke Blue Devils prepare for the 2024-25 season with a completely new roster save for two returning players: Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster. Cameron Sheffield, Sion James, Mason Gillis, and Maliq Brown were signed from the transfer portal, and six high school recruits committed to play for Duke.

List of all players who’ve committed to the Duke Blue Devils

#1 Cooper Flagg

The No. 1 ranked recruit and the most anticipated incoming freshman, Cooper Flagg, is already drawing much attention. At 6-foot-9, he is an elite shooter and an effective on-ball defender.

It is rumored that many players entered the transfer portal because of Flagg, as it is expected that coach Jon Scheyer will build his game around the young forward. He is a projected No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft.

Cooper Flagg was selected to the USA Men's Select Team roster on Friday. He is the first college player to make the team since Marcus Smart and Doug McDermott in 2013.

#2 Khaman Maluach

Khaman Maluach, a five-star recruit from the NBA Academy Africa, is expected to impact the team immediately. The center possesses versatility but still requires some training before he is ready for the NBA draft next year.

In his recruitment report, 247Sports' Eric Bossi wrote:

"What immediately stands out about Maluach is his size. He's simply massive. At 7-foot-1 with a big and strong frame, he's almost impossible to move in the post and he has a pretty well developed low post game.
"He makes jump hooks, he finishes lobs, he has counter moves and he knows how to establish position, present a target for his guards and then finish once the ball is delivered. If there are any areas where Maluach can improve it is with his overall conditioning and athleticism."

#3 Isaiah Evans

Isaiah Evans is one of the recruits who still needs time to grow into his full potential. A five-star recruit, he has shown flashes of being an excellent shooter, as he averaged 27.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.3 blocks in his senior year at North Mecklenburg. In his scouting report, Adam Finkelstein wrote:

"Evans has immense two-way tools and could still be in the very early stages of putting them all together. He needs to keep getting stronger, more efficient, and being able to consistently impact winning on both ends of the floor.
"If it all comes together ideally though, he could end up a big wing who scores at multiple levels, can be a secondary playmaker, and potentially versatile defender." (via 247Sports)

#4 Kon Knueppel

The 2023–24 Gatorade Wisconsin Player of the Year, Kon Knueppel, averaged 25.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 5.3 assists in his senior year at Wisconsin Lutheran. He shot 59.4% from the floor, including 39.5% from deep.

Kon Knueppel led his school to a 30-0 record and won the state championship. The guard scored 11 points, 11 assists and five boards in the title game.

"Knueppel is one of the better offensive players in the class. He’s skilled, smart, efficient, productive, and able to create match-ups problems all over the floor. Long-term, his upside will be tied to his ability to hold his own on the defensive end of the floor as the game gets quicker and more athletic," Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports wrote.

#5 Patrick Ngongba II

Son of George Washington assistant coach and former WNBA player Tajama Ngongba, Patrick Ngongba II missed his senior season due to an injury. However, he played his best at the 2024 FIBA Men's U18 AmeriCup in June. He averaged 4.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks, helping Team USA win the gold medal.

"He has extremely soft hands and touch, equally impressive footwork, and a high release point around the paint. He provides a true low-post scorer, but is also an inside-out threat with developing shooting range out to the arc." (via 247Sports)
"He’s a good passer who is starting to punish double-teams, facilitate from different spots on the floor, and even deliver balls with both hands.

#6 Darren Harris

Darren Harris averaged 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in his senior season and was named Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year. The four-star recruit led Led St. Paul VI Catholic High School to a 33-2 record, winning the conference and state titles.

"Harris is an intelligent passer, he has some mid post game and he's a sneaky good rebounder. He doesn't yet do a ton off the dribble so that is a major area for him to establish growth and athletically he isn't bad but he could stand to improve his lateral quickness and overall pop which could help him to create separation on offense and be a more versatile defender."
