Dusty May is the men's basketball coach for the Michigan Wolverines and has over 20 years of collegiate basketball coaching experience. May hails from Bloomfield, Indiana, and attended Indiana University. He started as a student manager under Bob Knight and transitioned into video coordinator and administrative assistant. He continued to work for Indiana until his graduation in 2000, then joined USC as an administrative assistant and video coordinator. In 2005, he became the assistant coach for Eastern Michigan followed by Murray State, UAB, and then Louisiana Tech. During his tenure at Louisiana Tech, May assisted in three straight regular-season conference titles. As an assistant coach at Florida from 2015 to 2018, he helped the Gators compile three 20-win seasons and two consecutive qualifications in the NCAA Tournament. He served as head coach at Florida Atlantic University in 2018 and led the Owls to the NCAA final four in 2023. May decided to become the head coach for Michigan in March 2024.

Dusty May had a remarkable 2022-2023 season, it was his first season as the head coach for the Florida Owls. Under May's guidance, the Owls finished the season with 35 wins, with 18 wins in the conference play. They also won the C-USA tournament and the C-USA regular season championship. The Owls were notable in the NCAA Tournament, winning against Memphis with one point and earning a spot in the Final Four. They won against higher-seeded teams like Tennessee and Kansas State. FAU's season ended in the national semifinal with a defeat against San Diego State. His team finished fifth in the USA Today Coaches Poll rankings. May won the CBS Sports National Coach of the Year, NABC District 17 Coach of the Year, and Conference USA Coach of the Year for his remarkable 2022-2023 season.
