Dylan Harper delivered a career-best performance, scoring 36 points to lead Rutgers to a thrilling 85-84 overtime victory against Notre Dame on Tuesday night at the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas.
The freshman guard showcased his scoring versatility and court vision, playing 39 minutes and leading all scorers in the tightly contested matchup.
Harper shot 12-for-22 from the field, including 2-for-6 from beyond the arc, and added six rebounds, six assists and just one turnover. He was a force at the free-throw line, hitting 10 of 14 attempts, including 6-of-8 in overtime. Harper’s offensive brilliance marked the highest-scoring game by a freshman this season.
With poise and skill reminiscent of elite NBA guards, Dylan Harper dominated on offense, making tough shots, penetrating the paint with ease and sinking seamless long-range attempts. His scoring outburst, paired with his basketball IQ, was one of the most impressive individual performances of the season.
The Scarlet Knights leaned heavily on Harper during a heated overtime period. Rutgers jumped to an 81-75 lead with 50 seconds remaining, but Notre Dame’s Matt Allocco responded with three consecutive 3-pointers in just 30 seconds, tying the game at 84 with 12.4 seconds left.
On the ensuing possession, Cole Certa fouled Harper, who sank one of two free throws to give Rutgers the lead. After a Notre Dame timeout, Allocco’s deep 3-point attempt rimmed out at the buzzer, securing Rutgers’ win.
Dylan Harper Solidifies His NBA Draft Stock
Dylan Harper’s impressive performances continue to elevate his NBA draft potential, positioning him as a likely top-two selection alongside Duke’s Cooper Flagg if he maintains his current level of production.
Rutgers closed the first half of its game against Notre Dame with a 19-10 run, cutting the deficit to 35-34 by halftime. Harper led the charge, scoring 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
Through six college games, the freshman guard has started every contest and logged over 30 minutes per game. Following his standout showing against the Fighting Irish, Harper is now averaging 22.5 points, 5.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 54.3% from the field, 30.8% from 3 and 71.1% from the free-throw line.
Harper and the Scarlet Knights (5-1) will next face No. 9 Alabama, while Notre Dame (4-2) takes on No. 6 Houston on Wednesday. These matchups will determine the championship day pairings at the Players Era Festival.
