Grant Nelson is an American basketball power forward for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He started playing high school basketball at the Devils Lake High School, where he was named North Dakota's Mr. Basketball during his senior year. In his senior season, Nelson tallied 25 points, 18 rebounds, and 5.7 blocks per game, leading the conference in all three aspects. As a junior, he averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks while earning second-team All-state honors. Following his prep career, Nelson became one of the most sought-after prospects in college basketball when he signed with North Dakota State in 2020.

Grant Nelson embarked on his collegiate basketball journey with the North Dakota State Bison in 2020 and played in all 27 games during his freshman campaign. He was named Summit League Sixth Man of the Year and averaged 6.3 points in his rookie campaign. The following year, as a sophomore, Grant missed four games due to injury but still ranked third on the team with 11.6 points per game. After spending three seasons with the program, Nelson transferred to Alabama with two seasons of eligibility remaining. After graduating from Devils Lake High School, Nelson was ranked the No.3 player nationally, irrespective of position in the 2020 recruiting class. Nelson enjoyed a breakout freshman campaign where he was honored with the Summit League Sixth Man of the Year and was named on the league’s All-Newcomer Team. But after three seasons with the Bison, Nelson entered the transfer portal in 2023 to join Alabama for his final two seasons of college basketball. Nelson announced his return to Alabama for his final season of eligibility, foregoing the 2024 NBA Draft.
