Hailey Van Lith has been criticized after the USA fell short in nail-biter against Australia. Team USA 3x3 is facing a tough time at the 2024 Summer Olympics, now standing 0-3 after a close 17-15 loss to Australia. Earlier, it also fell to Germany and Azerbaijan.

Following these defeats, point guard Van Lith and her teammates Dearica Hamby, Rhyne Howard, and Cierra Burdick have been subjects of social media criticism. One fan posted on X/Twitter:

“Hailey Van Lith has just entered the transfer portal to Kazikstan.”

Another fan posted:

“Hailey needs to go Home and bring in a real guard this is embarrassing.”

Another fan made a jibe at Van Lith:

“I knew when I saw HVL on team that was a bad sign.”
“Is it true that after the latest loss LVL decided to transfer to Team Australia?”, another fan wrote.
“Zia Cooke should’ve been in HVL’s spot,” one fan wrote.
“How do they pick the players for this sport?” another posted. “I’ve never seen the rationale for Van Leith and not really heard much about the other players.”

Despite the backlash, it's worth remembering that Van Lith and Burdick were part of the team that won the 2023 FIBA 3x3 World Cup. Van Lith is still in college, and Burdick plays in Spain for Valencia, having last appeared in the WNBA in 2021.

While Team USA is at the bottom of the eight-team pool, there's still time for a turnaround. The team will have another chance to secure its first win later Thursday against Spain, with future matchups against France, Canada and China.

The USA team and Hailey Van Lith are hopeful for a strong comeback in the remaining games.

The United States is off to a tough start in 3x3 basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Both the men's and women's teams are still searching for their first win after five combined games. The men's team fell to 0-2 with a close 19-17 loss to Poland on Wednesday. The women's team also struggled, dropping to 0-3 early Thursday.

This group of players was selected from a training camp in Springfield. Some notable names include Cameron Brink, Burdick, Hamby, Van Lith, Rhyne Howard, Azana Baines, Christina Dalce, Blake Dietrick, Allisha Gray, Linnae Harper, Lexie Hull, Kelsey Mitchell, Lucy Olsen, Katie Lou Samuelson, Madison Scott, Mikaylah Williams and Camille Zimmerman.

The 3x3 squad features two players from the WNBA: Hamby of the Los Angeles Sparks and Howard of the Atlanta Dream. Hamby stepped in for Sparks rookie Brink, who is out for the rest of the WNBA season due to a torn ACL.

Despite the rough start, there's still hope and time for the USA to turn things around and make a strong comeback.
