Hailey Van Lith made her debut for the TCU Horned Frogs on Tuesday night. The fifth-year senior started in her new team's season opener against Houston Christian.
Van Lith was a key player for the LSU Tigers team that reached the Elite Eight last season. She entered the transfer portal during the offseason and was picked up by TCU.
The fifth-year senior seeks to lead TCU to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010. The team finished with a 20-13 record last season.
Van Lith made her first field goal as a Horned Frog in the first quarter, a 3-pointer with 2:15 left. The shot gave TCU a 10-6 advantage that stood until the buzzer.
The 5-foot-7 guard continued her scoring binge in the second quarter, dropping eight straight points to spark a 17-0 run that lifted the Horned Frogs to a commanding 27-8 advantage with 4:13 left in the first half.
Van Lith made three free throws in the remaining minutes to end the half with 14 points, helping TCU mount a comfortable 36-19 lead.
The 23-year-old guard played the role of a playmaker in the third frame, delivering three assists to Sedona Prince. She then buried a triple that propelled TCU to a 47-25 lead.
Hailey Van Lith added four more points in the fourth period to steer the Horned Frogs to an impressive 78-41 victory.
She tallied 21 points, five rebounds, seven assists and six steals in 35 minutes of action. She shot 6-for-14 from the field, including 2-for-5 from the 3-point line, and made seven of her eight attempts from the free-throw line.

Hailey Van Lith had an impressive start in TCU's win over Houston Christian on Tuesday. Van Lith, who played for four seasons with Louisville and LSU, was one of the major contributors to the victory.
It took her seven minutes and 45 seconds to score her first points — a 3-pointer — which sparked her 21-point night. She also chalked up five rebounds, seven assists and six steals in 35 minutes.
She threw crisp passes to 6-foot-7 center Sedona Prince, who finished with 29 points, seven rebounds, one assist, two steals and six blocks in 30 minutes of action.
TCU will aim for its second straight win against New Orleans on Sunday at the Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
