Senior guard Hailey Van Lith once again demonstrated her scoring and playmaking prowess as the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs upset the No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 76-68 on Friday at the Cayman Islands Classic.
The 5-foot-9 guard delivered an impressive stat line, scoring 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 5-of-9 from the free throw line. In addition to her scoring, Van Lith added three rebounds and seven assists while committing just one turnover in 33 minutes of play.
After TCU trailed for most of the game, Van Lith took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 of her 21 points in the final period to drive her team to victory. She contributed 19 of her 21 points in the second half, as TCU outscored Notre Dame 31-12 in the final 10 minutes.
This performance marked Van Lith’s third game this season with 20 or more points since transferring to TCU, underscoring her ability as both a scorer and a playmaker. Averaging 19.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, she is the team’s second-leading scorer and is quickly establishing herself as a critical leader for the Horned Frogs.
Van Lith's standout game against Notre Dame, a team that recently defeated JuJu Watkins and the USC Trojans with ease, highlights her evolution as a leader and player. During her time at LSU, she struggled to find her footing within the roster, and her lone season in Baton Rouge ended on a sour note.
Following her transfer to TCU, Van Lith expressed her renewed enjoyment for the game and her embrace of the changes she’s undergone since leaving LSU.
