There has been an influx of talented guards in the 2024-25 NCAA season that has led to impeccable plays on the perimeter. Among the mix are two standouts in TCU fifth-year senior Hailey Van Lith and Notre Dame sophomore Hannah Hidalgo. Both are combo guards who have been making noise for their respective teams this year.

Hailey Van Lith is listed at 5-foot-7 and has been playing as a shooting guard in her five-year college tenure for the Louisville Cardinals, LSU Tigers, and now, the TCU Horned Frogs.

Hannah Hidalgo stands at 5-foot-5, and in her two-year stint so far for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, she's been one of their main point guards.

Playstyle

Hailey Van Lith emulates her game after 2016 NBA champion Kyrie Irving, who is considered by many to be the NBA's greatest ball handler of all time. She likes to play free on the wings with a score-first mindset, whether it's to slice the defense all the way to the rim or pick her spots to rise up for a jumper.

Along with this, Van Lith also has a knack for rebounding—using her nose for the basketball to start the offense or get an extra possession.

Hannah Hidalgo has flashes of Van Lith in her game with her ability to score at all three levels. What sets her apart, however, is her toughness on defense. The 19-year-old is often giving more of her energy on the defensive end, heckling the opposition's guards while reading pass lanes in an attempt to steal the ball.

As a natural scorer, Hailey Van Lith is currently averaging the 77th-most points of the season at 19.2 a game. She is also contributing 7.0 assists, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.0 blocks for the 6-0 Horned Frogs who are third in the Big 12 at the moment.

Hannah Hidalgo is producing an even more impressive 2024-25 campaign as she is tied for the fourth-highest scoring average with 24.8 per contest. Her two-way prowess is also seen in her 5.2 swipes and 6.2 boards to go along with 3.6 assists for the 5-0 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in second place in the Atlantic Coast division.

Van Lith and Hidalgo will have the chance to go against each other when TCU meets Notre Dame for the Cayman Islands Classic on Nov. 29.
