On Saturday, the No. 4 Kentucky Wildcats pulled off a nail-biting 90-89 OT win against the No. 7 Gonzaga Bulldogs. Unfortunately for Kentucky, fifth-year guard Kerr Kriisa suffered a Jones fracture in the 8:42 mark of the second half and is expected to miss three to six weeks.
The West Virgina transfer still mustered up the might to defend Bulldogs guard Ryan Nembhard in his fastbreak layup make despite the turnover before being checked out for the remainder of the matchup.
Fans extended their support for Kriisa, wishing for a speedy recovery and commemorating his defensive attempt.
"He’s a warrior," one user wrote.
"What the NBA NEED," another proclaimed.
"Ball is life," a user commented.
"Dawg," another user expressed.
Others voiced their opinions on Kriisa still going up to contest the shot despite injuring his foot, worrying he might have suffered further complications.
"Risked more injury to get scored on. I love the mentality but brother you gotta take care of your self first," a user explained.
"Doing that, he might’ve destroyed his foot," another said in concern.
"Boy I’m going straight to the locker room lmao," another shared.
The Wildcats overcame an 18-point deficit in the second half to get the win over Gonzaga. Otega Oweh scored at will inside to give Kentucky its first lead, 81-79, in the opening minute of overtime.
Eventually, the Wildcats had a four-point edge before Gonzaga's Nolan Hickman nailed a three to put the Bulldogs within one. Kentucky let the clock run out with four seconds remaining to get its eighth win of the 2024-2025 season.
Despite his injury, Kriisa still pitched in eight points, three rebounds, and four assists in 27 minutes of action.
