The Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team represents Duke University in NCAA Division I and participates in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Being one of the oldest programs in the United States, Duke is fourth all-time in overall wins among NCAA men's basketball teams. The Blue Devils' head coach for the 2024-2025 season is Jon Scheyer, following the retirement of the legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski. Duke has had some of the all-time greatest players in college basketball history, with 11 National Player of the Year selections and 71 NBA draft picks. The team has 36 All-Americans and 14 Academic All-Americans. Duke has dominated the ACC, claiming a record of 23 conference tournament championships and 21 regular-season championships. Prior to joining the ACC, Duke won five Southern Conference championships. The squad was ranked the No. 1 team in the AP poll eight times and holds the record for being the No. 1 ranked team for a total of 145 weeks.
The Duke Blue Devils are rivals with the North Carolina Tar Heels. The two programs are ten miles apart down Tobacco Road and have played each other numerous time since their initial game in 1920. Thousands of Duke students compete in the tradition of camping out in 'Krzyzewskiville' to claim a seat at Cameron Indoor Stadium when North Carolina plays. Aside from their yearly games, Duke and North Carolina have faced each other twice in the postseason, including a historic Final Four meeting in 2022. Duke also has rivalries with NC State and Wake Forest, making up the Tobacco Road quartet. Michigan and Maryland also have rivalries with Duke, but the Blue Devils only acknowledge North Carolina as their arch-nemesis. Despite their differences, they also organise marathons and other charitable events through the Hoop Dreams Basketball Academy to support children with life-threatening illnesses.
