USC star JuJu Watkins has quickly established herself as one of the biggest emerging talents in college basketball.
Earlier this month, Watkins had a conversation with Flau’jae Johnson on her podcast "Best of Both Worlds," during which she shared one of the most memorable fan encounters she ever had in her career.
"The craziest one — it was this old guy probably like in his 30s or something not old but older and he had his phone like 'Can you take a picture?' So he got his phone up and I was the wallpaper," JuJu said, laughing uncontrollably while retelling the story. [TS - 23:13]
"I was like what? He was trying to do it fast and I'm like 'Come on dude, you're too grown for this.' I took the picture anyway. I love this, I appreciate this," she added.
The 6-foot-2 guard, who won the USBWA National Freshman of the Year award, also shared that she appreciates gifts from young girls.
"I love when little girls would give bracelets, like, they make the bracelets and they write a letter, that's like the sweetest," JuJu said. "I like I try to keep all of them in a little box, so I appreciate those."
JuJu Watkins shares about improving her game in the offseason
In her first year at college, JuJu Watkins broke the record for the most points scored by a freshman with 920 points. She now looks to build on her strong debut campaign with USC and has been working hard to improve her skills.
On episode ten of Flau'jae's "Best of Both Worlds" podcast, Watkins talked about the extra effort she's been putting in during the offseason to get better at different facets of her game.
"Definitely left hand and also like pace. Just slowing the game down that's the biggest thing for me this year. Then just repetition, like shooting with dead legs, trying to rep that every day," JuJu said. "So just being intentional with my moves, slowing it down, speeding up, getting to my spots." JuJu Watkins averaged 27.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game last season, leading the Trojans to the Pac-12 tournament championship and a run to NCAA tournament Elite Eight. She also holds the sixth spot in the college women's basketball NIL rankings with a valuation of $576,000.
