On Sunday, the whole Iowa Hawkeyes community was hit with shocking news. Former Iowa basketball player-turned-radio analyst Jamie Cavey-Lang died of cancer at 41. Cavey-Lang stepped down from her broadcasting duties in the 2022-23 season.
On Tuesday, Iowa women's basketball coach Jan Jensen posted:
"It’s with a heavy heart, I share our Iowa Women’s Basketball family has lost 1 of our brightest lights. Jamie Cavey Lang has joined the angels. Her beautiful spirit brought joy, fun & love to all she touched. A Hawkeye All-B1G Post, an incredible person & my friend…Love you forever, Jami-Sohn #52"
Jansen also posted a tribute to the photographer who captured an image of them together:
"Thx to @beebritt34 for posting this. This is Jamie Cavey Lang. Regardless the setting or circumstance, from the moment we coached her, to the moment she called our games, seeing her in Carver or in random places…we got the best hug & the brightest smile. Always. Brandee also said one of the best things to describe Jamie…
"She said 'If joy was a person, it would be Jamie.' What a beautiful and accurate statement. Today, may those of us that knew Jamie Cavey, be joined by those that didn’t… and may we all hug & smile today … to honor this incredible young woman that truly illustrated joy and love in every role & realm in her life."
Jensen and the rest of the Hawkeyes will continue their season in memory of the former analyst, aiming to build on their 10-2 record thus far.
They will matchup against the Purdue Boilermakers next on Sunday.
