Jake Diebler is an American college basketball coach who was announced as the new head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes earlier this year. His first stint with the program began as a video coordinator in 2013. Diebler played as a guard at Valparaiso University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. He began his coaching career as a student assistant under Homer Drew at Valparaiso and also served as the director of basketball operations during the 2010-11 season.
Diebler's career took a turn when he was promoted to assistant coach in 2011 and led the Crusaders to the Horizon League regular-season championship for two consecutive seasons. Diebler also enjoyed a brief spell as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt, under head coach Bryce Drew. From 2013-2016, Diebler was hired for the role of a video coordinator. He was later hired back in 2019 to work as an assistant coach under head coach Chris Holtmann. In his first season, the Buckeyes had an overall record of 21-10 and he was promoted to Associate Head Coach before the 2022-23 season.
Earlier this year, Diebler took over the Ohio State Buckeyes as their interim Head Coach. Under Diebler, Ohio State closed the campaign with eight wins in 11 games. On March 17, he was officially named the head coach of the Ohio State men’s basketball team.
