Rivera-Torres attended multiple high schools during his formative years. He began at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, New York, before transferring to Bishop Walsh School in Cumberland, Maryland, for his junior year. His senior year was spent at John Marshall High School in Richmond, Virginia. During this time, he led his team to a 28-0 record, culminating in a Class 2 VHSL State Championship victory and a MaxPreps National Championship title. In his senior season, Rivera-Torres averaged 15.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.6 steals, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game. Following high school, Rivera-Torres committed to play for Vanderbilt University under head coach Jerry Stackhouse. During the 2023-24 season at Vanderbilt, he participated in 29 games with two starts while averaging 15.4 minutes per game. He posted averages of 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game and was particularly effective defensively, recording 27 steals, ranking third on the team. Despite a promising start at Vanderbilt, Rivera-Torres decided to enter the transfer portal after one season. He subsequently committed to the University of San Francisco in April 2024.
