Jordan Gainey is a guard for the Tennessee Volunteers and plays as a senior in the 2024-2025 season. Gainey hails from Tucson, Arizona, and attended South Kent School in Connecticut. He began his collegiate basketball career at USC Upstate. As a freshman in the 2021-2022 season, he averaged 13.8 points per game with 49.3% shot accuracy from the three-pointer range. Gainey earned the Big South Freshman of the Year award for his notable season. During his sophomore season, he averaged 15.2 points per game (via ESPN) and earned a selection in the All-Big South First Team. Gainey transferred to Tennessee in 2023, and during the 2024-2025 season, against Louisville, he scored nine points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Gainey also scored 16 points from seven out of nine attempts with three steals in the season opener against Gardner-Webb, a new record made by a Volunteer.

Jordan Gainey had a remarkable high school career as a freshman at Franklin High School in Wisconsin and played as a slot receiver on the football team. However, during his prep career, Gainey switched his focus completely to basketball, later transferring to Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Arizona. A senior during the 2019-2020 season, Gainey led Salpointe to a 30-1 record and won the school’s first-ever 4A state championship. During his two seasons at Salpointe, he scored over 670 points in total. Gainey had initially committed to Pima Community College in Tucson but decided to join South Kent School in Connecticut for a year. At South Kent, Gainey played basketball and was on the school's golf team.
