According to 247Sports, he ranked first in the state of Maryland, 10th in his position, and 44th overall. ESPN also ranked him 49th overall and 15th in his position. As a senior at Baltimore's St. Frances Academy during the truncated COVID season, Reese led the team to a 15-1 record and a trip to the championship game of the Baltimore Catholic League Championship. As a Terrapins sophomore, Reese earned an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2023. During his junior year, Reese averaged 13.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, and one steal per game.
